Diode Laser Training

Full 8-12 hour Diode Laser Training (hours are state dependent)

This course is a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of diode lasers and their application in dental hygiene! It is an 8-12 hour course (state dependent) and you will gain the didactic and hands on training needed to use a Diode Laser.  Here's a breakdown of what participants can expect to gain from each section:

Laser Physics & Electromagnetic Spectrum:

Understanding the science behind lasers will give you the foundation to work safely and effectively. By learning about the electromagnetic spectrum and how lasers interact with tissues, you'll be able to select the right settings for different clinical scenarios.

Laser Settings & Safety:

Knowing the correct settings for various procedures will ensure you can use the laser safely and effectively. Laser safety protocols are crucial to protect both you and your patients from potential risks such as eye damage or thermal injury. The course covers protective eyewear, laser protocols, and safe practices.

Services for Hygienists:

Understanding the specific procedures that hygienists can perform with a diode laser—like soft tissue procedures, debridement, and laser-assisted periodontal therapy—will enhance your skills and expand the services you can offer to patients.

The “Why” Behind Using Lasers:

It's essential to understand not just how to use the laser, but why you would choose it for particular treatments. Lasers can provide benefits like reducing bacteria, minimizing tissue damage, enhancing wound healing, and improving patient comfort. Knowing these advantages will help you make informed decisions during patient care.

AAP Staging and Grading of Periodontal Disease:

Learning how to stage and grade periodontal disease according to the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) will give you the tools to assess and manage different levels of periodontal health, tailoring laser use to each stage.

Clinical Note Templates:

Creating templates for clinical notes will make documentation more efficient and standardized, which is especially helpful when integrating new technologies like lasers into your practice. These templates can ensure you capture all relevant data for both treatment planning and insurance purposes.

Maximizing the Benefits of the Diode Laser:

With a diode laser, there’s a wide range of benefits you can offer to your patients, from soft tissue management to enhanced healing and reduced bacterial load. This section will dive into the specific benefits of the diode laser, including how it can be used in periodontal therapy, preventive care, and the management of soft tissue lesions.
